A Haunting in Cobh

The Commodore Hotel started life as the Queens Hotel in 1854. It served an upper class clientele and was quite posh. It changed ownership a couple times before it was owned by a German named Otto Humbert. During his tenure, on May 7th 1915 the Lusitania was sunk by German u-boats. It was only 18 miles from Cobh. The hotel was pressed into service  as a make-shift hospital for the survivors and as a morgue for the deceased.

Many of the hauntings at the hotel center around the moaning of people in pain and pacing footsteps back and forth. Hotel guests also claim to experience unexpected cold spots.

Another intriguing tale from the early 1900s centers around a young woman who checked in with her young child. The baby was often heard crying, inconsolably. The next day the woman checked out of the hotel without the baby. Shockingly, the baby is later found dead in a small suitcase.
Guests can still hear the anguished wails of the tormented infant.

The hotel staff will neither confirm nor deny the tales of ghostly hauntings. One clerk said “some people get very unnerved by the supernatural so we do not want to frighten them away from staying at the hotel.”

Reading to Disassociate

I have always been a reader. I escaped an abusive childhood through books. I read books through all my early adulthood to cope with life as a military spouse. I read to my children. Now I read to try and stay sane through the possible dismantling of our government. Yes, I am doing my part to resist. I am also trying not to lose my mind. Just finished “Midnight at the Blackbird Cafe” and I highly recommend it. Now to try to knock down my NTR pile of books on my bookshelf.

What are you reading right now? Let me know.

New Shoes

Trying to find just the right shoes for a cosplay character can be really hard. The shoes I wanted were not only really expensive, but were completely sold ou. I found a similar pair online from Mona flying. They are 100% leather, but the color is much more blue than black. They looked really dark online. So I may try to use black leather dye. They are very comfortable  and totally perfect for normal wear too.

Can you guess what character I will be dressing as? I think this is a hard one. The shoes may be distinctive, but people don’t always look at shoes actors are wearing in tv shows.
Let me know your guess in the comments.

I Am Tired

I know, we are all tired. The massive amount of  EOs put out by the president are made to wear you down. To break you. His allowing Musk to raid the Treasury Department is horrifying. Please, do what you can to ensure your safety. These are unprecedented times in the USA. This is what happened in Russia, Germany, Hungary… the end result isn’t pretty. Work on building your community of friends. We will all need each other to get through this.

Don’t Give Up

No matter how shitty the world is, I am not going to give up. I had my coffee, did laundry, took care of the animals, and did dishes. I also planned my wardrobe for my European trip and tried not to catastrophize. I worked on a letter to my congressman and donated to a couple charities. We are a community.

And the Fascists Are In The House

Target has joined many other piece of shit stores in getting rid of DEI. Fuck them. Fuck the government, fuck the nazis. I will not roll over. Looking for ethical replacements for those fascist collaborators. Not another cent of mine will go to them. May they all crumble into dust.

Don’t Stop Believing

Today is MLK Day. So remembering his passion for equality for all is easy. What is hard is actually doing anything. One easy thing is to not let people get away with making racist comments. Call them out. Let them know that you do not accept racism.
Another thing you can do is donate to an organization that supports the rights of all people. The ACLU, and HRC (Human Rights Campaign) are both great organizations and always need funding. Some times we want to try to work on a grand scale, when doing small everyday things is just as effective. Changing one heart or one mind is enough. Be the change.

Shown is my sign from the Woman’s March 2017.

Before the Storm

Looks like we are getting hurricane force winds again this is a serious and terrible thing. So many communities are affected by the fires these winds spread. Consider donating to a local shelter, or foster a pet for someone displaced. My little loaves here are comfortable, but once the wind starts they get very anxious :(

Wine About It

Today we are going to drink wine and talk shit

Last of the Garden

I had a few random bits left over from my Fall garden harvest. A couple tomatoes that I had harvested green and left to ripen in a paper bag, the last Violetta de Gama onion, garlic, parsley, dill, mint, a lone red pepper that I think was a pasilla, Meyer lemon, and pomegranate avrils. To this is added some farro, chick peas, dried cranberries, a little sumac, white vinegar, lemon olive oil, salt and pepper to taste. It is so fresh and makes me think of warm days.

Life Is Change

Never thought I would see social media in its death throes. X (formerly twitter) Meta (Facebook, Threads, Instagram) have all seen a mass exodus of users to other platforms such as Bluesky and Mastodon. Makes us all long for Myspace, am I right? Will this signal a resurgence in blogging? What will fill the void? Most of my friends stopped blogging in the mid 2010s. Most online forums that we used to connect and keep in touch have long gone away. Webrings are no more. People have this insatiable need to find community. We will make a community if we have to. I don't know what he future holds, but I do know it holds change. Nothing stays the same. Life is change.

The Days Are Dark But The Cats Are Warm

Today was pretty gloomy, but that is okay. I have my cats to not only keep me company, but to keep me warm.

My New Amazon Storefront

As most of you know, my cats are very important to me. I love documenting them in photos and video.

I am so excited to tell you, I was just accepted to the Amazon Influencers Program. I now have a storefront where you can see my fav cat items.

So what does this all mean? It means you can see the items that I buy for myself and that I think are super cute. If you like them too you can buy them off of Amazon. I get a small commission on qualifying sales. This income will help me get feral cats to the vet and help pet charities and pet owners in need.

So consider checking it out!

Painting a Mural

I have been fixing up the North Garden. I really neglected it after Dobby died. So today I started the background for a mural in his honor. Working on big fluffy clouds. This is going to be a long haul project. Took me two hours to do the little bit I got up. I still need to finish all the colors of clouds and then add details. I will keep you updated on the progress.

The dollhouse is waiting for me to not be doing other stuff. The kittens have been adopted except for the grey one. We named her Miss Mochi Mo da Super Beau. She is a doll. I am thankful for her and my other cats.

Staying Busy

I know it has been awhile since the last post. I haven’t working in the dollhouse due to tiny kittens being kept in the room my dollhouse is in. They were so worth it.

The two older babies went to their new home a couple days ago. The little grey one is younger by about 3-4 weeks and is going to my granddaughter. I am going to miss these scamps!

My garden has continued growing like crazy. I do have to spend a good amount of time on pest control. Aphids, cabbage loopers, squash bugs, tomato worms. I have them all and they drove me nuts! I don’t want to use pesticides so hand picking, heavy spaying with water and dish soap are my go-tos. Makes me tired, but I deserve to eat those veggies, not the bugs.

I also grew sunflowers for the first time this year. How the heck have I never grown them before?

You can be sure I will grow them again next year.
How has your summer been? Have you grown a garden, done craft? Let me know!

Grab Bags! The Dollhouse Saga

I am so excited! The $5 grab bag I ordered from Just Miniature Scale arrived! I bought four bags. They did an excellent job of mixing it all up.

There are a few items that I am not keeping. I might do a giveaway. Let me know what you think!

More Harry Potter: The Dollhouse Saga

My Etsy order finally arrived! I ordered the cutest stuff from Shrinking Violet Creations to finish off the Cupboard Under the Stairs. She packaged it all so nicely.

The little stickers are so unbearably cute! I am going to make a placard with them.

Here is a sneak peek at part of the room

I need to make a side table to hold the pot of tea and the issue of the Quibbler. Also thinking of making a tiny scarf and the stand for Hedwig still needs to be made too. At least I can make those at the dining room table so as not to bother the kittens.

Late Spring Garden

Today was a huge harvest from my garden. I started a garden subscription box to maybe add a little variety to what I grow. I saw leaf’d box  on Facebook and decided what the heck, it could be cool. had never grown endive or radicchio and was excited at how beautiful they grew
Radicchio

Endive

I have so much of these so I searched for recipes. Here are two I plan on trying.

I also harvested bunching onions, lettuce, fennel, cabbage, beets, bok choy, and kale. So. Much. Kale. Thank goodness I love it!

Almost forgot the beans and peas! I am making pickled beets and can’t wait to eat them.

Soon I will have tons of squash as the blossoms have started forming. Yum! The broccoli has also started making tiny florets.

Happiness achieved.
